Being a complex device, the screw conveyor has a simple operating principle. Therefore, the principal part of this machine is a spiral-shaped rotating screw. Its main function is to move the bulk material located between the screw and the body frame in the desired direction. HOW IS THE SCREW CONVEYOR MADE?
In whatever sphere the conveyor is used, its internal organization is approximately the same. Its components: the body, the feeding screw, unloading and shipping brunch tubes, bearing supports, mounting flanges, gears and, finally, the engine, which, as a rule, operates from the electrical network. Usually the body frame is not an integral structure, but consists of several sectors, tightly connected with the bolts. The most common form of the screw conveyor body frame is a cylinder, and the popular materials for its manufacture are stainless or carbon steel.
- As we mentioned above, the main part of the screw feeder is the feeding screw. Its shape and dimensions are separately specified before the conveyor launch, since these parameters are largely dependent on the materials and crops that will be transported. Specialists distinguish between three types of feeding screws: blade, solid and belt. If necessary, two or more screws can be simultaneously installed into the conveyor for different types of transportation.
- Bearing supports serve to transfer torque to the screw, as well as to maintain the central axis. If the screw conveyor is of a small size, one support is enough. Large conveyors require the installation of additional supports, and usually they do not need maintenance, since they are self-lubricating.
- The screw conveyor is always equipped with a special engine, which is resistant to high temperatures. Sometimes the conveyor is equipped with a two-speed engine. The engine power is calculated taking into account such parameters as gear characteristics, expected performance, geometric parameters of the screw, and it depends on the property of the material to be transported.
- An important part of the screw feeder is a reducing gear (two-stage, cylindrical), which ensures the rotation of the screw.
